Admissions Process and Enrolment

At our bilingual secondary school, we warmly welcome strong students who would like to join Phorms in Year 5 or beyond. It is possible to join during the school year, provided that places are available. Read on to learn about the application process and entrance test, how we award admission, school fees and the next steps.

Year 5

Entry Requirements and Selection Criteria

The following criteria are considered for admission to Year 5:

Academic Achievement

The official requirements for entry into secondary school (“Gymnasium”) in Bavaria are met:

  • students have achieved grade point average of minimum 2.33 or better in the three core subjects on the official transfer certificate from their primary school (“Übertrittszeugnis”)
Please note that we do not offer trial lessons for children whose transfer certificate does not include a recommendation for Gymnasium.

  • for students transferring from outside the Bavarian school system, school leadership will determine whether there is an equivalent eligibility

German and English Skills

  • While near-native English skills are not required at the time of entry for academically capable students, fluency in spoken and written German is an essential prerequisite due to the demands of the Bavarian curriculum.

Presence and Demeanor

  • We also expect students to make a positive contribution to our school community through their behaviour and attitude towards learning.

Year 6 and Onwards

Entry Requirements and Selection Criteria

The following criteria are considered for admission to the higher year levels:

Previous Schooling

  • The formal admission criteria for secondary schools (“Gymnasium”) in Bavaria are met. This is usually the case with students coming from a public or state-recognised Gymnasium in Germany. If there are differences in language choices or school tracks (from Year 8 onwards), solutions can usually be found.
  • For students not currently attending a public or state-recognised German secondary school (“Gymnasium”), the school leadership will review whether admission with a probation period may be possible.

Current Academic Achievement

  • Admission requires that a student’s current academic performance indicates that they are likely to succeed at our bilingual school.

German and English Skills

  • While near-native English skills are not required at the time of entry for academically capable students, fluency in spoken and written German is an essential prerequisite due to the demands of the Bavarian curriculum.

Presence & Demeanor

  • We also expect students to make a positive contribution to our school community through their behaviour and attitude towards learning.

If necessary, your child may also be required to take entrance exams (e.g. if they are transferring from a different school system).

Tuition Calculator

We want our educational programme to be accessible to as many children as possible. From kindergarten onwards, we are pleased to be able to offer income-based tuition. Tuition is always determined by the gross annual income of all legal guardians from two years prior. This means, for example, that for the 2026/27 school year, the positive gross annual income of the parents/ guardians from 2024 will be used. Tuition is recalculated every year. With our tuition calculator, you can estimate your monthly fees.

Total annual gross family income

Monthly tuition:

Monthly tuition
minus school fee subsidy (€110)

Please note that the displayed monthly tuition fee is rounded.
(valid from the 2025/26 school year – subject to change)

The exact amount of your monthly tuition will be provided by the Admissions Team during the admissions process.

Supplementary Fees for Secondary School

  • Administration Fee

A one-time administration fee equal to two and a half times the monthly tuition will be charged upon contract completion. With a gross family income of up to €60,000, the administration fee will be equivalent to one month of tuition.

  • Catering Fee

For catering (lunch & snack), a monthly fee of €102,00 is charged.

  • Materials Fee

At the beginning of the school year, a materials fee of €50 is payable.

  • Fees IB Diploma Programme

If you participate in the IB Diploma Programme, there is an additional monthly fee of €375 from YR11 through the first half of YR13, and €50 per month for participation in individual IB Certificates.

We currently offer the IB English Certificate and the IB Business Management Certificate, among others. Furthermore, families are invoiced the costs for the registration for the IB Diploma or for the Certificates as well as the examination fees for each subject.

  • Sibling Discount

All siblings (including the first child) in kindergarten and school receive a sibling discount of 15% of tuition. No sibling discount is granted in crèche.

  • School Fee Subsidy (Schulgeldersatz)

Phorms Munich Secondary School receives school fee subsidy funding (Schulgeldersatz) for each student according to Article 47 BaySCHFG in conjunction with §22 AVBaySCHFG. The school fee subsidy funding amount is currently €110. This amount will be deducted from the monthly tuition.

  • Tax Deductibility

30% of tuition for primary and secondary school are tax deductible as special expenses (Sonderausgaben). This does not include accommodation, day care or catering costs for the child. Since 2008, the tax authorities have stipulated that €5,000 is the maximum amount possible for tax reduction for extraordinary expenses. This means that parents cannot deduct more than €5,000 per child for tuition fees from their tax liability (§ 10 Paragraph 1 Clause 9 of German Income Tax Act, Special Expenses).

Day care costs (e.g. Phorms Afternoon Programme, but not external clubs) are also tax deductible as work-related childcare costs. The child must live in the same household as the parent and must be under 14 years of age. If both parents, or a single parent, are working, childcare expenses amounting to 80% of the total costs —up to a maximum of €4,800 per child -may be taken into account as business expenses (Betriebsausgaben) or income-related expenses (Werbungskosten) when determining taxable income. This does not include expenses which are related to extracurricular activities, tuition for special skills, or for sport and other leisure activities.
