Experience Bilingual Learning at Our German-English Secondary School

Are you currently spending a year abroad in an English-speaking country and would like to further develop your English skills and actively use them in everyday school life upon your return? Or are you presently attending a German-language secondary school and looking to transfer to a bilingual secondary school? We will support you personally and individually throughout your school transition. Become part of an international school community characterised by particularly close collaboration between students and teachers – with lessons in small classes, an exciting extracurricular programme, and all of this in two languages.

Getting started is easy

With very good German language skills and a genuine interest in English, you already have an excellent foundation for a successful start at our bilingual secondary school.

Our subject options are structured as follows: In Year 6, you choose between French and Latin. From Year 8 onwards, you decide whether to follow the economics stream or the languages stream with Spanish.

We are happy to advise you on whether changing academic streams is possible or whether another individual alternative might be the right solution for you.

Your springboard to an international future

Bilingual teaching is an integral part of our everyday school life, enabling you to use and continuously improve your English. This ensures you are ideally prepared for international degree programmes and for studying abroad.

In addition to the Bavarian Abitur, you can also obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB Diploma) or individual IB Certificates, which facilitate access to universities worldwide. Small class sizes allow for highly individualised support and personal guidance all the way to graduation.

However, school life is about more than lessons alone. It is also about your personal development.

External Language Certificates

Students have the opportunity to prepare for internationally recognised language qualifications such as DELF (French), DELE (Spanish) and Cambridge certificates (English).

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a globally recognised programme that encourages young people to realise their potential and grow as individuals. Volunteering, developing transferable skills, taking part in sporting activities and completing expeditions foster a spirit of adventure and teamwork and help students discover what they are capable of.
We offer all three Award levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold), which can be completed in different year groups.

Science Competitions

Students can take part in competitions such as the Pangea Mathematikwettbewerb, the Landeswettbewerb Mathematik Bayern, the Informatik-Biber or the International Science Olympiad. In addition, we provide further enrichment opportunities to strengthen problem-solving skills in mathematics and the sciences.

Politics and Society

Our students actively participate in Model United Nations (MUN) conferences and also organise their own events within the Phorms school network. Alongside conferences in Germany, the annual MUN conference in New York City is a particular highlight. Participation enhances political awareness and develops debating and communication skills.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Phorms München is certified as an IB World School. In addition to the Abitur, students can complete individual IB Subject Certificates or pursue the full IB Diploma.

Frequently Asked Questions
and Our Answer

  • Is it possible to enter Phorms Gymnasium at a later stage than Year 5?

Yes, it is possible to transfer to our secondary school after Year 5, provided academic requirements are met and we have places available. If you are interested in joining, even during the school year, please contact the Admissions Team directly. If you are interested in enrolling for the coming school year, please enquire online to receive further information.

  • Is admission possible without knowledge of German or English?

Unfortunately, admission without knowledge of German is not possible. Very good or fluent written and spoken German is a prerequisite for admission as we do not offer a German language acquisition programme. For English, school-level proficiency is sufficient.

  • Is the secondary school state-recognised? What school qualifications do you offer?

Yes, our secondary school is state-recognised and we teach according to the Bavarian curriculum. All students therefore take the rigorous and highly-regarded Bavarian Abitur exams in order to graduate. In addition to the Bavarian Abitur, as an accredited International Baccalaureate World School we offer particularly motivated students the opportunity to obtain  either IB Certificates in individual subjects or  the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

  • When does the application process start?

Applications for entry into Year 5 open in October of the previous year. For higher year levels, we accept applications on a rolling basis as long as places are available. Families interested in  mid-year entry are kindly asked to contact our Admissions Team directly. If you would like to enrol your child for the coming school year or later, please submit an online enquiry to receive further information.
