Early Childhood Education
Building Strong Foundations for Learning and Life

The early years are a time of wonder, curiosity and rapid growth. Our educational focus is to nurture children with warmth and to encourage their development through play in all essential areas. With creative learning opportunities, shared experiences and attentive guidance, they gain step by step the core skills, self-assurance and enjoyment of learning that will prepare them for a confident and enthusiastic start to school life. All of this unfolds within a bilingual setting, where children discover both German and English in an immersive way.

Bilingualism

Bilingualism through Immersion

Our best practices in bilingual learning are based on children being immersed in an environment where German and English are a natural part of everyday life. At PhorMinis Munich, this happens easily in daily interactions – through rituals and routines, group activities and caring exchanges with native-speaking educators.
Bilingual immersion creates not only a stable linguistic foundation, but also an open worldview. Early learners will develop an understanding of different ways of expressing and conducting themselves, building metacognitive muscle that will support all future learning.

Linguistic Adaptability

PhorMinis early learners grow up naturally with both languages. Our educators create a vibrant learning environment characterised by nurture and trust in which language comprehension and use of German and English are encouraged from the very beginning.

This enables the children to quickly develop the remarkable ability to navigate different linguistic worlds with ease.

Special Language Support

For children who have limited exposure to German at home, we offer targeted language support.

In Preschool, language support is provided in cooperation with teachers from our primary school. As part of the mandatory language assessment (Sprachstandserhebung) prior to Preschool entry, we determine whether further support is required within the framework of the German language programme Vorkurs Deutsch.

Early learners are not only supported in their German: targeted English language assistance is also provided as needed.

Our goal is to provide every child with a solid linguistic foundation for a successful start in Phorms Munich Primary.

Developmental Areas

1

Personal and Social Development

At PhorMinis Munich, children learn to respect their own needs as well as those of others, to flourish freely, and to cultivate a sense of security, trust, and mindfulness in their relationships with others.

2

Communicative and Linguistic Development

We support early learners in not only understanding and using German and English with confidence, but also in building the phonetic foundations that will pave the way for proficient reading and writing in both languages.

3

Creative Development

Through a wide range of materials and activities, we foster early learners’ creative expression, particularly in visual art, creative crafts, music, and movement.

4

Mathematical & Spatial Awareness

We encourage early learners to develop a concrete understanding of numbers, quantities, shapes, and spatial relationships. An important foundation before actual arithmetic begins in primary school. Through play, children discover patterns, compare amounts and sizes, recognize geometric shapes, and develop an initial sense of spatial awareness and orientation.

5

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

In conveying knowledge and exploring the world together, we focus on the reality of children’s lives – on topics that interest them and with which they can identify. In this way, we create a learning environment in which lasting learning success becomes possible. We also include age-appropriate content from science and technology: Why does an airplane fly? How is a rainbow formed?  Through shared explorations, experiments, and child-friendly explanations, we nurture curiosity, a sense of wonder, and an initial understanding of scientific and technological relationships.

6

Physical Development

Age-appropriate physical development is not only important for your child’s health, but also forms a vital foundation for their cognitive, emotional, and social growth.
That is why we specifically promote fine and gross motor skills, coordination, and the safe use of tools and other objects. In addition, we support children in developing an awareness of movement, body perception, and healthy living, playfully, in everyday contexts, and with joy in their own activity.

Themes and Educational Activities

Diversity of Themes

Over the course of the kindergarten year, the children immerse themselves in a range of exciting themes – for example “Me and My Body”, animals, transportation, or outer space. Groups explore a theme for about six weeks through age-appropriate activities from all developmental areas: linguistic, creative, gross-motor, numeric, etc. Depending on the children’s interests and needs, a theme may be covered for a shorter or longer period.

Concurrently, there is always room for spontaneous projects and new ideas that arise from everyday group activities. Curious questions and new discoveries often emerge precisely when they are not planned.

Learning with All Our Senses

At PhorMinis Munich, early learners’ unique interests and strengths take centre stage. Educational activities are tailored to spark curiosity and connect with each child’s world, inspiring discovery and exploration through play.

We bring theme-based learning to life in creative and holistic ways: painting and crafting, making music, cooking and experimenting, reading stories, climbing and tumbling, and imagining ourselves into ther worlds.

This hands-on approach ensures your child learns through experience, engaging their mind, heart, and hands.

Exploring the World Around Us

When it fits with our themes or inspiration strikes, we take excursions to explore our world. Together, we discover nature in nearby parks such as the English Garden or make the most of Munich’s rich cultural offerings with visits to museums, theatres, or simply the local grocery.

Even our youngest learners in the crèche enjoy outings: whether on foot or in a stroller, they actively observe and interact with the neighborhood in a way that suits their stage of development.

This way, learning becomes an adventure, indoors and outdoors alike.

Preschool Programme
Ready for Primary

    Preschool program

In their final year of kindergarten, PhorMinis Preschoolers prepare for the transition to primary school. Through established routines and structured daily rhythms, Preschoolers become familiar with routines and expectations they will encounter in primary school.

Over the course of the Preschool year, we gradually introduce educational activities that encourage deeper concentration and age-appropriate periods of seated learning, always tailored to each child’s stage of development and individual pace.

Fostering Social and Linguistic Skills

    Preschool program

A key focus is strengthening children’s social and communication skills. The Preschool year provides valuable opportunities to further build empathy, persistence, and self-regulation and to support each child in their personal development.

Our preschool team works closely with the primary school team. Through regular exchanges, we share information and strategies to support individual early learner’s skills and competencies for school-readiness.

A Smooth Transition to Year 1

    Preschool program

Through joint educational activities, such as field days, assemblies, or Step-Up days, Preschoolers gain their first insights into primary school life well before they officially start. This creates a familiar and reassuring pathway for the transition.

During the Preschool year, we maintain a strong partnership with parents. By reflecting together on your child’s journey, we build on their strengths and provide tailored support where needed at home and at Phorms, helping them to take their first steps into Primary with enthusiasm and confidence.
