Popsicles with Melanie

Datum:
Popsicles with Melanie as the Green Group would have talked about the three stated – solid, liquid, and gas!
Ask your child what they imagine when you say the word water. They might say things like a lake, swimming pool, something to drink or rain.
These are of course all correct, but this is a fun opportunity to introduce that water actually comes in 3 states- solid, liquid and gas.
A fun follow up activity is making popsicles! Making popsicles this way would show how water takes on all 3 states of matter during one activity.

All you need is:

1. Water
2. Sugar
3. Any fruit of your choice
4. Popsicle moulds or cups
5. Popsicle sticks or spoons
6. Aluminium foil or tape
1. Collect all of your ingredients and necessary items.
2. Heat up water in a pot on the stove; observe how the water is becoming steam- the gas state! Once it is hot, pour in your sugar and stir to make sure the sugar dissolves. The amount of sugar, water and fruit depends on the amount of popsicles you would like to make.
3. Puree your fruit either with a blender or a Stabmixer (careful, this step can get a bit messy!). Mix the fruit puree into the sugar and water mixture once it has cooled.
4. Fill your moulds! If you do not have Popsicle moulds, don’t worry. I used a plastic cup, filled my cup, put a piece of tape over the top of the cup and stuck a spoon through. Alternatively, covering the cup with aluminium foil and sticking a Popsicle stick or spoon through it will also achieve the same end result. I used what I had on hand and I encourage you to do the same!
5. Time to watch as our Popsicle in a liquid state turns into a solid state by putting it in the freezer!
6. Eat and enjoy!
