Building up Pen Pals with Kirk Ireton in England

Getting the announcement that a student will leave us at the end of the school year is not only for the school and the teachers a loss, but especially for the classmates. This, however, can bring a wonderful opportunity. And so it happened in July 2018 that we built up first contacts with the new school of the girl who was going to leave us, which we are still keeping up.

The Kirk Ireton Primary School lies south of Manchester in the middle of England. Only 66 pupils, divided into two groups are taught at this primary school. The head of school, Ms. Smith, speaks German quite well and teaches the children the language enthusiastically.

This is how we jointly came up with the idea to make use of the contact and let the children be part of it. It is always a very motivating incentive to write and to deal with languages when there is a connection to a real human being and to real events. In this way, correspondence between pen pals was formed which is not only a chance to learn and benefit from, but also an exciting opportunity filled with enthusiasm by both parties.
