The Phorms Tangram
The Tangram is an old Chinese puzzle which dates from the 4th century BC. Legend has it that a monk gave one of his students the task of painting the diverse beauty of the world on a single ceramic tile.
Unfortunately, the tile broke into seven parts and the student was unable to put it back into a rectangle. He tried to do so for several days, during which time an endless number of patterns and pictures emerged.
The student ultimately arrived at the understanding that he did not need to journey out into the world. The whole of the world‘s beauty and diversity were reflected in the seven parts of the broken tile.
The Phorms Tangram picks up on this story. We also wish our students to understand the world’s beauty and diversity. Therefore we created our own Phorms Tangram. It reflects curiosity and inquiry, creativity and our multifarious programme of education.
